Update On The SUSPIRIA Remake!

Bringing you the best in Horror Movie News, and all things Horror.

Dario Argento's 1977 classic Horror film SUSPIRIA is considered by many fans to be one of the very best movies ever made. Plans to create a remake were talked about for a while but never amounted to anything. There were even ideas for the film to take the possible television series route.

Then back in 2015 we learned that Italian filmmaker Luca Guadagnino had been selected to replace David Gordon Green as director for the SUSPIRIA remake.

With original star Jessica Harper firmly on board, we know that this project is moving along nicely as production halted back in January for a bit, only to resume filming in March as Guadagnino took time off to focus on his film CALL ME BY NAME, which premiered at Sundance.

With production officially wrapped on the SUSPIRIA remake, the post production process is now in full effect.

As most of you are aware, Dario Argento’s version of the film brought a very bright and technicolor watching experience. Speaking with Variety, director Guadagnino touched on his upcoming remake on the comparison saying:

“It’s a film about guilt and motherhood. It has no primary colors in its color palette, unlike the original. It will be cold, evil and really dark.”

Dakota Johnson will be taking on the heroine role which Harper portrayed in the original film. Tilda Swinton is also on board, and is expected to play one of the witches that run the dance academy.

Chloë Grace Moretz is also part of the cast and will likely be playing one of the students at the dance academy. Mia Goth joins the rest of the ladies as she too is expected to portray one of the students at the academy.

Director Luca Guadagnino's career has mostly been made up of shorts and documentaries. He has a few feature dramas to his credit including the thriller A BIGGER SPLASH, which is a remake of 1969's LA PISCINE.

Guadagnino previously stated about his SUSPIRIA project that he has high hopes of getting composer John Adams on board, and that he is taking a Fassbinderian approach to the remake.

Synopsis:

"Based on the 1977 film from Italian horror master Dario Argento, SUSPIRIA follows a young ballet dancer who travels to a prestigious dance academy in Europe, only to discover it is a front for something far more sinister and supernatural amidst a series of increasingly grisly murders."

David Kajganich wrote the script which is based on Dario Argento's classic film.

With Amazon holding the the distribution rights, it looks as thought the SUSPIRIA remake is aiming for a 2017 fall release. We will continue to bring you more on this story as it unfolds.
