Major Name In Talks To Direct ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK Remake!

Bringing you the best in Horror Movie News, and all things Horror.

A thrilling landmark film that jolts along at a breakneck pace, 1981's ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK leapt to cult status with lots of action, edge of your seat suspense and a mind blowing vision of lone warrior Snake Plissken battling his way out of a post apocalyptic Manhattan.

There has been an ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK remake being talked about for many years now. It has been a while since we last heard news of this project but we have learned that the project is still moving forward.

Back in October of 2015, MAMA scribe Neil Cross was selected to write the script for ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK for Fox which plans to have the remake take a PLANET OF THE APES style approach, meaning that it will be the first in a new series.

According to THR, Robert Rodriguez is now in discussions to direct the ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK remake for 20th Century Fox. Just to be clear, the deal has not been made official as of this point in time. On board as executive producer with creative input on the project is John Carpenter.

Rodriguez directed the James Cameron produced sci-fi film titled ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL for 20th Century Fox. That film is set to be released on July 20th, 2018.

Should Rodriguez take on the job, the plan is for production on the ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK remake to begin later on this year. It is unclear if the character of Snake Plissken would appear in the remake, nor do we know if Kurt Russell would have any association with the film.

We will continue to bring you more on the ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK remake as we hear it.
