Bringing you the best in Horror Movie News, and all things Horror.

THE SHINING is known to Horror fans as something that is deeply connecting on many levels. A film which can be view multiple times with each watch seeming to be a different experience.

We learned not long ago that the sequel to THE SHINING, Stephen King’s DOCTOR SLEEP is going to be made into a film, with Mike Flanagan set to be directing.

As most of you know, the novel Doctor Sleep follows an adult Danny Torrance, who puts his psychological "shining" abilities to benevolent use at a hospice in the tiny town of Frazier, New Hampshire. A recovering alcoholic, Danny's newfound stability is put into jeopardy when a malevolent, shine-enhanced group known as the True Knot rolls into town.

Not long ago we learned that Kyleigh Curran was cast as Abra Stone, Rebecca Ferguson is set to be playing cult leader Rose the Hat, and Zahn McClarnon will take on the role of Rose's right hand man Crow Daddy.

We have now learned that Emily Alyn Lind will play Snakebite Andi.

Snakebite Andi is a character described as a member of the nomadic psychic group the True Knot, who feed off the ‘steam’ of those children gifted with ‘the Shining’. Rose the Hat, the True Knot’s leader, has her main target in sight, which is Abra Stone.

The adult version of Danny Torrance in the new film will be played by Ewan McGregor with Bruce Greenwood as Danny's closest friend, Dr. John Dalton.

Alex Essoe will play Wendy Torrance, the mother of Danny Torrance and Carl Lumbly has been cast in the role of Dick Halloran.

It is expected that Essoe and Lumbly will be used in these roles in possible flashback scenes as Danny will now be grown.

Synopsis:

"On highways across America, a tribe of people called The True Knot travel in search of sustenance. They look harmless—mostly old, lots of polyester, and married to their RVs. But as Dan Torrance knows, and tween Abra Stone learns, The True Knot are quasi-immortal, living off the “steam” that children with the “shining” produce when they are slowly tortured to death.

Haunted by the inhabitants of the Overlook Hotel where he spent one horrific childhood year, Dan has been drifting for decades, desperate to shed his father’s legacy of despair, alcoholism, and violence. Finally, he settles in a New Hampshire town, an AA community that sustains him, and a job at a nursing home where his remnant “shining” power provides the crucial final comfort to the dying. Aided by a prescient cat, he becomes “Doctor Sleep.”

Then Dan meets the evanescent Abra Stone, and it is her spectacular gift, the brightest shining ever seen, that reignites Dan’s own demons and summons him to a battle for Abra’s soul and survival. This is an epic war between good and evil, a gory, glorious story that will thrill the millions of hyper-devoted readers of The Shining and wildly satisfy anyone new to the territory of this icon in the King canon."

Director Mike Flanagan is known for ABSENTIA, HUSH as well as King’s adaptation of GERALD’S GAME. He will also be rewriting the script that was originally adapted by Akiva Goldsman. Trevor Macy will produce along with Jon Berg, with Goldsman as executive producer.

DOCTOR SLEEP is set to hit theaters on January 24th, 2020.
