Some long over due images have finally hit the scene for Tim Burton's upcoming animated film Frankeweenie, which is based on the same short that he created in 1984 for The Walt Disney Co, but never got released.
Burton's stop-motion "gothic-fest" (rendered in 1950s-style black-and-white as well as 3-D) tells the story of a little boy named Victor, who loves his pet dog Sparky more than anything in the world. Naturally — or rather, unnaturally — Victor decides to use his science kit to bring the pup back from the grave after an accident claims the pooch’s life.
These images which appears courtesy of Entertainment Weekly show off a couple of stills from the film which Disney originally thought was "too weird to release." Something tells me they're gonna soon regret making that decion.

Frankenweenie, with voices by Winona Ryder, Martin Short, Catherine O’Hara and Martin Landau, will be in theaters Oct. 5, 2012.
