George A. Romero Passes Away

Bringing you the best in Horror Movie News, and all things Horror.

There is very sad news in the world today as we have learned that George A. Romero has passed away at the age of 77.

According to the LA Times, Romero's producing partner Peter Grunwald said that Romero passed away after a “brief but aggressive battle with lung cancer." Romero passed with his family by his side and was listening to the score to the 1952 film THE QUIET MAN, which was one of his favorite films.

Known to Horror fans as The Godfather of the Living Dead, George Romero had a hit with NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, which became a cult classic and launched the zombie genre of movies. Romero’s sequels included DAWN OF THE DEAD, DAY OF THE DEAD, LAND OF THE DEAD, DIARY OF THE DEAD, and SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD.

Romero’s zombie movies set the standard for what modern zombies have become. His zombies, were a lot of times much more than just cannibals as they were metaphors for conformity, racism, mall culture, militarism, class differences and other social ills.

Romero also directed THERE’S ALWAYS VANILLA, SEASON OF THE WITCH, and THE CRAZIES. It goes without saying that the loss of Romero will impact many across the world.

R.I.P. George A. Romero. Our deepest condolences go out to his family and friends during this very difficult time.
