I AM LEGEND... a brief review

I saw I Am Legend about a week ago. I thought that overall the movie worked... I'm just not sure of what it worked as. I found it hard to clasfy it due to it's variety of elements and the style of the film itself. The colors were great, the muc was terrific, Will's performance was typical enough to be good, and the story had it's catches and plot turns to keep you interested. My only gripe with this film is the lack of real makeup effects. Everything was computer generated. The creatures in the movie just weren't realistic enough for me because of that very reason. I think that because the cgi stuff is so handy... today's filmakers just say, "aw don't worry about it... we can take care of that later with cgi", and leave it at that. I find that most of the time, real effects that you can tell are actually "there", look more realistic. Well, when all was said and done... I really enjoyed the movie. I guess the best way to clasfy it is as a "good film". It's worth your time and money... so if you haven't seen it, do.

That's a perfect example right there. That and the cgi creatures really turned me off.

Overall I thought the movie was okay...cool concept for a movie but alot of it did look pretty fake...the ending was the best part...lol

Has anyone seen the alternate, "controveral" ending to this? I saw it and thought it was pretty good. But damn that CGI!!!!!!

Yeah, I think this ending is 100x better than the theatrical one. I'm not sure what's so "controveral" about it, but it's definitely the one that should have been in theaters. It makes more sense and shows how Will Smith's character was indeed a legend amongst the infected. I actually think that they are releang a DVD veron with this ending so, good for them. I'm going to have to agree that this ending was much better . . . and I'm surprised that I'm saying that because it's a much more typical "hollywood" happily ever after ending . .. but seems to fit this story MUCH MUCH Better than the Smith dies finale.

Yeah I know! I think this ending pulls together the idea of the story much better than the other one.

I don't normally feel compelled to write a review of a movie but I did on this one. I also wasn't aware there was already a thread started but hey I will contribute....

You have everything a good movie should have. A cool hero figure, a canine companion, the entire planet is turning into zombies and a compelling story about being the last man on earth. So why is it that I came away from this movie angry that they could ruin such a prospective good time?

My biggest complaint of the film is everything it asks you to invest in emotionally ends up dying. I respect them for trying to snag you with the emotions of long the two main characters (dog loves stay away) but give me some sense at the end of the film it is ok to smile again. Yes they have a colony that has withstood the mutation virus and yes the hero character did find a cure to the disease but how many “darkseekers” even still exist? Do we really want to bring these zombies back? We have no idea whether this cure is even successful as we never witness it work by interacting with one of these mutated beasts.

Tons of holes in the plot like who is manning the electric grid to the city, why are these other roaming animals not infected, and why is it the entire city is in ruins yet every car that is driven has a showroom shine? We all know how this movie should have been made, why didn’t the producers?

I wanted this to be a good movie but I was left wishing they would have made it into a next generation console title. Will Smith acted his ass off like he normally does but give the man something to work with.
