You already know where this story is going, don't you? Yes, my beloved horror genre takes a hit but sometimes failures aren't all bad. The film CREATURE mply had to fail and it did, in a HUGE way.
Why would we revel about such a box office disaster?
Shouldn't we embrace this little independent film that actually made it through the channels to receive at theatrical "wide" release. The answer is mple. It needed to fail because the film was just that bad

If this film went on to be successful I can't imagine the dribble we would have had to t through for years to come. No, this was actually a good failure and CREATURE succeeded the best it could at failing.
CREATURE opened in a shocking 1,500 plus theaters nationwide on September 9th, 2011 and shattered a record by becoming the 5th worst grosng film in the history of filmmaking. The little horror film that couldn't took in just $327,000 cementing its legacy of stink. To put this in perspective conjure up the worst film you can think of and there is a 99.9 percent chance that CREATURE opened worse.
With little to no marketing and a plot with holes like swiss cheese this wasn't surpring at all to fellow industry veterans. This movie has an audience and would have probably been a nice little DVD release but to ask moviegoers to fork up $12 to see it in theaters has to go down in history as one of the worst financial decions ever made.
No disrespect to the filmmakers or actors that put forth an effort to make this film. It was what it was and kudos to them for getting backing and making it nationwide. It's just a shame that other, much more deserving horror titles were shelved while this got a chance.
